As much as Dan Brown's The Da Vinci Code has come under criticism, Stephen J. Nichols argues that it has had at least one salutary effect: "Prior to The Da Vinci Code, you would have been hard-pressed to find many conversant with the Nicene Creed, but now nearly fifty million readers, not to mention masses of moviegoers, know a thing or two about it."
