The burned-over generation is a cynical, disillusioned bunch.... Truly, life as a tragic impasse, rife with suffering and self-inflicted trauma, is precisely the condition the cross addresses.
When confronting the Great Commission, the most vital question is the "what." What is the message that needs to be proclaimed to all nations? What do disciples look like? And what is the point? (1) This article, however, is not going to address those questions. This article concerns itself instead with the "how" of the Great Commission. Of course, the business of disciple-making is God's work and not ours, and to dwell on questions of strategy or approach almost automatically invites Pelagius to the table. ...
