Special Message from Mike Horton

Dear Friends,

For more than twenty years, we have been rebuilding the foundation of individual lives one brick at a time. Each time a person understands the solas or begins to see the importance of Christ-centered preaching, the foundation of their life with God is strengthened. Here is a short note we recently received from a listener:

This past Friday, I was asked by a staff member in my building what it was I believed. For the first time in my life I was able to tell her not only what I believed, but also why. And I did it before I even realized what had just happened. God used your program to connect all the dots he had placed in my life. I started listening to WHI during the "Romans Revolution." I just wanted to affirm what you know already; the WHI is an instrument in the hands of our Lord.
The supporter who wrote this note is only partly correct: we thank God that even in the midst of a tough economy and uncertain times, God has allowed us to extend the impact of the White Horse Inn broadcast and our magazine Modern Reformation through the sacrificial contributions of supporters like you!

Even over the past few months, I've been amazed at the reach of White Horse Inn and Modern Reformation. At conferences across the U.S. and across the denominational divide—from mainline Lutheran to Southern Baptist and everything in between—I hear remarkable stories about how this message has transformed people's lives and ministries.

We are asking God to help us extend the influence of White Horse Inn to new frontiers. We want to pursue more actively the dissemination of essential content for a global audience, especially where access to sound teaching is limited.

We are therefore asking you to invest in us as we go to new places in 2013:
  1. Indonesia: I've been asked to meet with leaders of gospel-preaching churches in Indonesia, the fourth largest country in the world. In a country where 87% of the population is Muslim, it is crucial that the gospel be taught in all its glory and fullness. We are thrilled to have White Horse Inn be part of this critical conversation.
  2. Germany: This summer, I will speak at a conference sponsored by a new effort to establish Reformed churches in Germany. The original location of the Reformation is now largely atheistic or agnostic, with evangelicals numbering a mere 2% of the population. Please pray that I can provide clear insight and strategic counsel to those trying to reestablish the foundations of the Reformation in Germany.
  3. Brazil: I am honored to have been invited back to Brazil for the third time. Evangelicals have grown from just 2 million in 1960 to over 51 million in 2010! With your help, White Horse Inn can help shape the conversation in this country of almost 200 million people.

One of the encouraging gifts of the Lord is our new President and Chief Operating Officer, Mark Green. Mark comes to us with twenty years of experience overseas, living and traveling and preaching and teaching in all seven continents. Mark's background as an executive in one of the world's largest companies will help us in our efforts to take the message of White Horse Inn to new audiences. Mark's passion and leadership will help our partners and staff explore the many opportunities at home and abroad.

Will you join me and Mark and the rest of the White Horse Inn team spread the good news of Christ so we can see a modern reformation in our time? Without your support we will have to cut back on some of our planned programs. All of us know how difficult these times are, and yet we count it a privilege to be able to reach into nations all around the world. Will you help us help people around the world know what they believe and why they believe it? Please help us today.

Soli Deo Gloria,
Michael S. Horton

More About the "Is the Reformation Over?" MP3 CD

"Is the Reformation Over?"

SPOILER ALERT

Answer: No.

As we near the five hundredth anniversary of Luther's nailing his Ninety-Five Theses on the door of the Castle Church in Wittenberg, Germany, Reformation Christians are being confronted with old and new challenges to the recovery of biblical Christianity. Does the Reformation still speak to our modern concerns? Is the Reformation more than just a historical footnote? This MP3 CD will equip you to answer our critics and give a reason for the hope that you share with Christians everywhere. Through these twenty extended-length episodes, bonus interviews, and Modern Reformation articles spanning over twenty years of programming, you will come to appreciate that the Reformation isn't a pristine ideal that we should try to replicate, but is instead a rich repository of resources that our own churches can turn to as we prayerfully seek a second reformation, a "modern reformation."

Our vision is to see a modern reformation in our churches through a rediscovery of God, the gospel, and the classic Christian confessions. Over the past twenty years, as we've grown more hopeful that such a reformation is possible we're putting our time and resources to work toward this.
