With over 40,000 students, Mackenzie University in São Paulo is often referred to as “the Harvard of Brazil.” An institution of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, Mackenzie had, like countless other schools, succumbed to theological liberalism. But in recent years something amazing has happened. The school has officially abandoned its liberalism and reaffirmed its belief in the inerrant Scriptures and the Westminster Confession. On this program, Michael Horton speaks with the leaders of this movement and of the opportunities for Reformation in the country of Brazil. .With over 40,000 students, Mackenzie University in São Paulo is often referred to as “the Harvard of Brazil.” An institution of the Presbyterian Church of Brazil, Mackenzie had, like countless other schools, succumbed to theological liberalism. Thanks for doing this program. Having lived in southern Brazil for a year now (and spent much of the previous two years here as well), I fear that there is far too rosy a picture being painted of the Reformed landscape. Yes, it is great that some of the Presbyterian leadership has a new-found interest in Reformed things, and that there is also enough general interest for there to be at least a couple of decently-attended Reformed conferences here annually. But otoh, by comparison with the U.S., this place can only be described as a desert waste. Having visited 5-6 Presbyterian churches (IPB), I will attest that we have yet to find one that isn't quasi-Pentacostal in its worship and some are full-blown in that direction. As far as I can tell, there is only one bona-fide confessionally Reformed church in the entire country and that is the very small and very struggling Igreja Reformada do Basil. I don't believe you mentioned them on the program, though they certainly deserve mention. I believe they are the only ICRC member church here.

I just listened to this program on Reformation Brazil and find it amazing and encouraging! It is very good for us to hear perspectives from other countries on what God is doing in their churches in the return of Reformation theology and worship. It brings us out of our narrow community and U.S. perspective and opens our eyes to the greater thing that God is doing in the entire world.--Keep up the good work!

Thanks for taking the time to learn from what God is doing in Brazil. I work in Brazil and Rev. Nicodemus' thoughts are spot-on.
