According to a host of recent indicators, sexual assault is on the rise, and unfortunately it appears to be occurring just as frequently inside the church as it is in the outside world. So how are we to deal with this growing challenge? More importantly, how are we to apply the gospel of grace to both victims and perpetrators of this type of abuse? On this program Michael Horton discusses this issue at length with Justin and Lindsey Holcomb, authors of Rid of My Disgrace: Hope and Healing for Victims of Sexual Assault.

  • Great program, but I can't help but see the wider application of all of current American culture based upon the fallacies of the "Gospel of self-esteem." The religion of law upon law is the slavery binds all our current endeavors, but the Amazing Grace outside our intellect sets us free.

Thank you for dealing with this subject. It is not something often dealt with especially in the church with so many of us hurting/suffering from these things.

I am 61 years old and was abused by my two older brothers, in different ways as a child. When I told me Mom and Dad, my Mom said I was a liar and my Dad said nothing.

Now, as a Jewish believer with three children of my own, I thank God that they grew up in a Christian home. However, I do still struggle with anger toward my siblings. When one of my brothers died I came home from the funeral and told my husband that this was the happiest day of my life, that he could not hurt me anymore. It was my oldest daughter who came in and said "Mom, do not judge your brother in death. Jesus will do that." I am grateful for your tape; I need healing and I will listen again and go back to the Psalms and Romans 8 and reread them. I love you and thank you all for helping me. Your sister in Christ, Susan

  • The worst, most awful, the saddest and most shocking event on earth is when the one good man who's ever walked the earth was brutally murdered and experienced hell. Then from and through that, God worked the greatest wonder and the most holy and glorious thing on earth through it: our salvation. The Gospel truly is the answer to all our horrors and pain.

This book - Rid of my disGRACE - gave me the words that helped me to go to God for resolution of the pain I have lived with 40+ years. The sexual abuse I experienced lead me to be severely confused by sex within relationships. I left a marriage with two wonderful children and a wonderful wife to live a gay life. I have gone to the cross and Christ for my identity. When I found this truth and renounced the lies and went to the Father, I discovered ME - the one God created. I discovered God's grace and have began the process of reconciliation with my children and ex-wife.

i have Justin and Lindsey Holcomb's book and it is wonderful you having them on. I wish there would have been a longer discussion about offenders in the church. The immediate actions to be taken concerning a sex offender in the congregation were well spoken and prudent. However the difficulty lies with what future ex-offenders have in the church and what expectation of reconciliation does the gospel give for the persons involved. This is something i have never heard discussed.
