Our friend and frequent contributor to Modern Reformation magazine has a great reflection on the death of Christopher Hitchens at his Old Life blog today.

From his conclusion:
Whatever these figures might say about God as redeemer, they do testify in important ways about God as creator, making is appropriate for Christians to give thanks for the incomparable product and productivity of these God deniers.

    Hi,

I was wondering if Jesus wrote a comment about Pharisees, would you deem it vulgar, discourteous or inflammatory or unacceptably offensive language?

    Here's His comment:

"But WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES… FOR YOU SHUT UP THE KINGDOM OF HEAVEN AGAINST MEN…
…THEY BIND HEAVY BURDENS and GRIEVOUS to be borne, and lay them on men’s shoulders; but will not move them with ONE OF THEIR FINGERS
WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES… you DEVOUR WIDOW’S HOUSES… you shall receive the greater damnation.
WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES…
WOE unto you, ye BLIND GUIDES…
    You FOOLS AND BLIND…
    You FOOLS AND BLIND…
WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES! You… have omitted… JUDGMENT, MERCY, and FAITH…
You BLIND GUIDES, which strain out a gnat, and SWALLOW A CAMEL.
WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES… within they are full of EXTORTION AND EXCESS.
    You BLIND PHARISEES…
WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES! You are FULL OF DEAD MEN’S BONES, and ALL UNCLEANESS… and HYPOCRISY and INIQUITY…
WOE unto you, Scribes and Pharisees, HYPOCRITES!… you are the children of them which KILLED the prophets. FILL YOU UP then the measure of your fathers.
You SERPENTS, you GENERATION OF SNAKES… you KILL AND CRUCIFY… you SCOURGE in your synagogues… Behold your house is left unto you DESOLATE"!!

    Hi,

What about Paul's comment? Would you deem it vulgarity, discourteous or inflammatory or unacceptably offensive language, threats?

"You who are full of all deceit and fraud, you son of the devil, you enemy of all righteousness, will you not cease to make crooked the straight ways of the Lord?

    Hitchens doesn't deny God anymore.

Indeed. In the interviews prior to his death and the video footage from the documentary Collision, Mr. Hitchens seemed (to me at any rate) to sound a bit like a man who couldn't, in the end, even believe what he was saying.. as if he recognized in some way who he was in relationship to Romans 1:18-25. Quite Sad.
