>Regardless of their denomination, most Christians would argue that the gospel of Jesus Christ is a free gift of God's grace and mercy that no one deserves. By his righteous life and sacrificial death, Jesus provides for us what we cannot provide for ourselves. But at this point, some argue that the free gift of God's grace still has to be "accepted," and that it is on the basis of our embracing the gospel that we are saved. What do you think? Are we saved by "choosing" to follow Christ? Is believing in Jesus the "one work" we have to do in order to get to heaven? The hosts discuss these questions and more as they interact with Ephesians 2.

This is exactly what the vast majority of my evangelical friends believe. I don't know what to say to them in order to have them believe in Christ's work more than their own faith. Suggestions?

Robert, if you have a copy of Putting Amazing Back Into Grace you can work through the many different Scripture passages tat begin on page 217 (the Appendix). Dr. Horton helpfully points readers to the witness of Scripture in explaining what's so amazing about grace.

Are we saved by “choosing” to follow Christ? No. We are saved, because we had believed in Jesus Christ.

Believers are confusing the invitation for salvation with the high calling of discipleship of continuing in His words, BUT THAT also has to be done by faith in the Son of God without any testimony to our religious flesh, because He is our Good Shepherd as well as our Saviour. The just shall live by faith in the Son of God in us Whom is enabling us to follow Him, thereby we are getting to know Him & the power of His resurrection as we are living the christian life with Him.

John 1:12But as many as received him, to them gave he power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on his name: 13Which were born, not of blood, nor of the will of the flesh, nor of the will of man, but of God. ~~KJV

John 6:28Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God? 29Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent. ~~KJV

Ephesians 2:8For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9Not of works, lest any man should boast. 10For we are his workmanship, created in Christ Jesus unto good works, which God hath before ordained that we should walk in them. KJV

Galatians 5:1Stand fast therefore in the liberty wherewith Christ hath made us free, and be not entangled again with the yoke of bondage...5For we through the Spirit wait for the hope of righteousness by faith. KJV

Philippians 1:6Being confident of this very thing, that he which hath begun a good work in you will perform it until the day of Jesus Christ:...9And this I pray, that your love may abound yet more and more in knowledge and in all judgment; 10That ye may approve things that are excellent; that ye may be sincere and without offence till the day of Christ. 11Being filled with the fruits of righteousness, which are by Jesus Christ, unto the glory and praise of God. KJV

Psalm 100:3Know ye that the LORD he is God: it is he that hath made us, and not we ourselves; we are his people, and the sheep of his pasture. KJV

Psalm 118:8It is better to trust in the LORD than to put confidence in man. KJV

Revival has to be done by focus on Jesus Christ. One cannot do that by splitting that focus by looking to ourselves in keeping commitments and promises to God in HOW we live the christian life when we are to be living by faith by keeping our eyes and trust in Him in living this christian life.

We are to bear testimony of Him that His New Covenant is sufficient and not lacking anything that it requires anything more from us than faith in Jesus Christ and thus taking Him at His Word which is not just for our salvation, but for living as His by that same grace of God.

    Dear Christian,

Someone has convinced you that a square can be a circle. Someone has convinced you that the blood-thirsty, psychopathic god of the Old Testament is the same being as the loving, compassionate Jesus of the Gospels.

    Squares can never be circles.

Your belief system is an ancient middle-eastern superstition. If you choose to continue to hold onto it that it is certainly your right. However, you are teaching this superstition to little children. Please consider what you are doing. These children deserve to know the Truth.

I encourage you to watch this five minute video on this subject:
