WHI-1121 | Parenting with Discipline & Grace
On this program, Mike Horton sits down with special guests Elyse Fitzpatrick and Jessica Thompson, authors of Give Them Grace: Dazzling Your Kids with the Love of Jesus. Elyse and Jessica discovered that much of their parenting was based on the power of guilt rather than the gospel of grace. Recorded before a live audience in Southern California, the authors share stories of parenting and childhood, and offer a better way for exhausted moms and dads to see God at work in the lives of their children.

Great broadcast. I just bought the book, but my sister is reading it while I’m finishing up a few others. This is a much-needed topic and I appreciated Fitzpatrick and Thompson’s wisdom. And I love the point that Horton makes about how mom’s are always being offered parenting books on morality–I call them the mamby-pamby books.
Also, I loved Fitzpatrick’s book with Dennis Johnson, “Counsel From the Cross.”

Aimee, I havena’t read the book “Counsel from the Cross” except for one excerpt which has stuck with me ever since, where she counsels sinners to come to the cross to die. I hope to get around to reading it soon.

Usually WHI is solid on the issues.
But, this one episode was pitiful.

I found this to be very informative, and helpful in that it reminds me to spend time in the Word and the gospel with my 10-yr old daughter. I don’t mean this comment to be unkind, honestly I don’t, but I have to say that to hear a woman’s voice oozing with emotion about the gospel and the love of God … grates on me. I shrink, and I don’t know why. I don’t listen to women teachers anyway because I get my teaching from WHI, RYM, and GTY, and I’m used to a man’s firm voice delivering a strong message of faith. Just saying. No offense meant.
