   I am glad you did a program on this topic. Special request: can you do a program on the unforgivable sin in the future? the bible mentions it with an alarming frequency (Hebrews 6; John 5:16; II Peter; Matthew, etc), but it is never mentioned in discussions in the church. I would love your perspective. Plus, I have been living with this phobia for 10 years about it…

   This is a great discussion by two of the best exponents.

   I took Dr. Olson’s comments to mean, “No matter what the Bible seems to say, we shouldn’t accept things that don’t fit our pre-Biblical theological commitments.” While Dr. Horton’s comments consisted of a straightforward discussion of various Biblical texts and the obvious conclusions we can draw from them. The longer I live, the more strongly I believe that Calvinism is a natural result of reading, understanding and believing the Bible. Rejection of Calvinism seems to stem from an a priori commitment to certain philosophical or traditional constructs.

   I have a friend that’s Arminian. I remember this nice lady in church asking him to pray for her stubborn wayward daughter. He flat out said “no, I’m not gonna pray for her, she has free choice.”
   Well, at least he is taking the logical conclusion to his worldview.

   Hey James, regarding the unpardonable sin, the only time something specific is mentioned is when Jesus is accused of doing his miracles through the power of Satan. Jesus says,
   Mark 3:
   28Verily I say unto you, All sins shall be forgiven unto the sons of men, and blasphemies wherewith soever they shall blaspheme:

   29But he that shall blaspheme against the Holy Ghost hath never forgiveness, but is in danger of eternal damnation.

   30Because they said, He hath an unclean spirit.

   Michael Horton mentioned that faith and repentence was necessary for salvation. That does not sound like justification by faith alone. Now if Michael mean the definition of repentance to be a turning from one thing to another, i.e., whatever you were trusting in other than Christ, he would be correct. If he meant repentance to mean a faith + works gospel he would be incorrect.
