We have a problem with bad religion too
One of the really encouraging things today is seeing people raised in “moralistic-therapeutic-deism” coming to understand and embrace the gospel. At the same time, the antithesis between “religion” and “grace” (or being “spiritual but not religious”) is still trapped in its own kind of moralism. It fails to recognize that Christ came to fulfill rather than abolish the Law and religion. If religion is a community with certain doctrines and practices, then certainly Christianity is a religion. It’s bad religion that Jesus abolishes, because he gives himself as the Life of the world in the gospel through preaching and sacrament. Take away this religion and you are just left once again with a religion of your own making. Check this out, from a Lutheran brother.

Brilliant. Sheer Brilliance.
I knew when I watched the video something wasn’t right. As Fisk points out, he is ranting against a religion of works, and then immediately complaining about people not having enough in the way of good works. I find this over and over again among well meaning Christians who desire to tell everyone else they need to “walk worthy” and they have just the thing to show them how. The law, and threats of God’s displeasure, or even loss of heavenly reward, if you don’t!
Apparently Rev Fisk has gotten some pretty nasty feedback. Huh. Who woulda thunk?
I mean I know it’s a sin to offer up a refutation in the same style in which the error was preached, but…

Thanks for posting.
The insidious nature of self-justification is brought out weel here. Although the “rapper” thinks he’s denouncing works righteousness, he’s actually practicing it – and the worst possible way because he thinks he understands grace.

I believe this video undermines what the young man was doing in Jesus>religion. All he was simply trying to do was remind non believers and even christian religion is the thing to get fixated on JESUS IS. Jesus came to establish relationship not religion. He came to fullfil the law that man had turned into religious duties that they couldnt up hold. Its sad to see the church attacking itself.

Cool video. Reminds me of why I left the Evangelical world. They contradict themselves every other sentence giving you intellectual whiplash.

Responding to Chris Fabian. Second Peter was written about the Gnostic false teachers in his day. To dspise and hate sound doctrine was the position taught by the Gnostics. Relationships NEVER trumps sound doctrine. Your proof that Gnosticism is alive and well in todays church. Peter taught that this kind of teaching was the greatest threat to the church.

Knowing sound doctrine I part of the relationship Just because you know scripture doesn’t mean you know Christ or have a relationship with him. Jesus>religion video proves this
