We Prefer Mad Men
Shane Rosenthal, the executive producer of the White Horse Inn radio broadcast sent this over today. It’s a sign advertising space for lease in a mixed use facility that used to be a church. The sign won a prestigious award from the American Advertising Federation. You can read more about the campaign and the award in this article from InsiderLousiville.com.
So, now you get to be Don Draper: how would you advertise a sacred space that has been set apart for common use? As a pastor of a church that meets in a high school auditorium, it breaks my heart to see such a space used for offices. I can imagine that there were a number of churches in Louisville that would have jumped at the chance to relocate into that building.

Isn’t it good in a way that we (i.e., HS auditorium) churches have to be more guerilla, less “establishment” in the emerging modern paradigm?

churches would not jump at the chance, at least not until the neighborhood changes in social status. There is a reason the old church left. not saying it is good

@jdg Would you elaborate, please?

Wow. Reminds me of my recent trip to Belgium where every village is centered around a beautiful old (Catholic) church that might contain ten (mostly old) people on any given Sunday.

I attend Sojourn Community Church here in Louisville. The church was planted 10 years ago, and 6 years ago we acquired a former elementary school as our first location. Since then we have acquired 2 closed Catholic churches, and merged with an SBC congregation that was near closing. In a few weeks we will open our 5th campus at another closed elementary school in New Albany Indiana. So we are trying. As far as the location in the story, it is a missed opportunity. Despite the number of churches in the area, it is in one of the most dangerous neighborhoods in the US (Smoketown).
