WHI-1028 | The Great Commission Survey
Is it more important to “be the gospel” to others or to “preach the gospel”? To our surprise, 69 percent of the Christians we polled sided with the idea of “being the gospel.” On this broadcast, the hosts continue to interact with the results from our recent survey of Christians at a conservative evangelical convention; this time dealing with issues relating to the theme of the Great Commission.

what methodology did you use for the survey? Very interesting results.

Some clarification on the question that was asked starting at 9:26 would be helpful. The question was “the most important way of converting non-christians is, preaching along with the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s supper”. The preaching I believe is clear, but the sacrament side is where I and others would feel a little hesitant. By this do you mean that the sacraments accompanied with the preached word are used by God to stir inward affections and convert non-christians? Do you mean that the gospel is seen clearly in the sacraments when explained by the preaching of the word and therefore used to convert? I would say they are definitely means to grow up christians, being signs from God shwoing us we are united with Christ (baptism) and that Christ shed his blood for us and his body was broken for us and Christ is the head of the church, our representative in the new covenant, but as far as converting, this needs some clarification I believe.

Great show.
I am confused about one thing:
At about 12 or 13 minutes in, the guys equate the phrase ‘be the gospel’ to a works-based religion.
I wouldn’t recommend either thinking of yourself as the gospel or attempting to work for your salvation…but I’m afraid I don’t quite see how they are the same, or how they are representing the same problem in the church.
Any clarification?
