Legalism would shrivel, antinomianism would die, the saints would find real comfort in the gospel, and our witness to the world would not be self-righteous. We would readily confess our need for grace and mercy to the world and that our only comfort in life and death is Christ! Pastors followed by laity learning how to rightly distinguish between law and gospel in the proclamation of God’s Word. As a contrast, C.F.W. Walther lectured for 39 evenings on this distinction alone. What do we regularly lecture on these days? End times? Prophecy? Miracles? Law and Gospel.
