Special Message from Mike Horton

Dear Friends,

Let me start by saying thank you for being a supporter and friend of White Horse Inn home of the White Horse Inn broadcast and Modern Reformation magazine.

Over the last 20 years, I've been amazed to watch our local Los Angeles radio program grow into a nationally syndicated broadcast and, finally, into a weekly discussion that is heard regularly in more than 100 countries around the world.  From a newsletter, Modern Reformation magazine has become the leading periodical for cross-denominational conversation and promotion of Reformation theology in evangelical circles.  With the other White Horse Inn hosts, I've visited prisons where inmates form discussion groups around the program and pass around the magazine.  I've been overwhelmed by the response we receive regularly from pastors, laypeople, and non-Christians who are provoked to consider more seriously the claims of Christ and the wonder of his gospel.  Lives, churches, and Christian institutions are being tranformed not only through White Horse Inn and Modern Reformation directly, but through the ongoing discussions that they generate on the ground.

These 20 years of broadcasting a weekly White Horse Inn program are first and foremost a testimony to God's loving and sustaining mercy. We also have you to thank - our listeners and partners, who have supported us with your finacial gifts and invited others to join you in White Horse Inn conversation.  I'm thankful for Kim, Ken, and Rod who have welcomed me and you, week-in and week-out, into this great conversation that just doesn't seem to grow old.

At the center of our work are six core beliefs:

1. The five "solas" of the Reformation are more than slogans to be recovered, they are the message that will renew the church's mission in our age.

2. Gospel-centered preaching that rightly distinguishes between law and gospel rescues the church from "Christless Christianity" while enabling Christians to grow in grace.

3. Word and Sacrament ministry realigns the church's mission and identity from program-driven pragmatism to the means of grace that Christ has ordained for the creation, sustenance, and expansion of his kingdom.

4. A properly missional mindset will identify the church as distinct from but engaged with the world, encouraging individual Christians to pursue their God-honoring vocations.

5. In order to know what they believe and why they believe it, Christians need to be well-catechized and grounded in the central doctrines of the faith.

6. Withstanding the onslaught of heresy and persecution requires a confessing church:  grounded in the witness of the ages and animated by deeds of loving service and witness.

Of course, these are the priorities that Christ has given to his church.  We've always emphasized that White Horse Inn and Modern Reformation are not the church, but that our mission is to encourage churches in their faithfulness and to enable Christians to find faithful churches.

This past spring, I saw the impact of White Horse Inn and Modern Reformation in Brazil and the Philippines.  I heard many wonderful testimonies of how our work is reaching Asia generally, including mainland China.  I was interviewed at the Manila classical station where White Horse Inn airs twice weekly and the station manger related that she had become convinced of the doctrines of grace by listening to the program.  Some of our materials are translated into Korean, Malaysian, Portuguese, Spanish, Latvian, Polish, French, and even Arabic!  This year we have added 16 new radio stations based on partner support.  We have grown from 7,000 podcasts per month in March of 2007 (that's people using the internet to get the podcast) to over 55,000 podcasts per month in March of 2010.  We have exciting plans in the works that will allow us to reach even more people with White Horse Inn and Modern Reformation.  With your help we can continue to succeed.

How we finish this fiscal year will be tremendously important to our future efforts.  Our objective is to raise $350,000.00 in this spring campaign to meet our fiscal budget by June 30th.  Please give a financial gift today toward our annual spring campaign.

Thank you and in Christ Alone,

Michael S. Horton

More About
The "Celebrating 20 Years"
MP3 CD

C.S. Lewis famously remarked that "mere Christianity" is like a hallway.  In this hallway, real conversations between Christians of different confessional convictions can begin and develop over time as we emerge from our different rooms to speak of Christ and his gospel to one another.

For twenty years, White Horse Inn has hosted this conversation in the spirit of that great hallway of "mere Christianity."  Every week, our hosts emerge from the rooms of their different traditions to engage with one another, and a nationwide audience, to bring the rich resources of the Reformation to bear on American evangelicalism.

White Horse Inn is proud to present selections from our twenty years of broadcasting. Through these 20 episodes plus extensive bonus material, you will come to appreciate that the Reformation isn't just a golden age for which we should long, but a vast treasure-house filled with resources to help move the church toward a second Reformation, a "Modern Reformation."

With your donation of $100.00, we will send you an MP3 CD* celebrating 20 years of broadcasting White Horse Inn.
